Manually Backup Your WordPress Database

Sometimes, however, you may need to do this manually. In this article we are going to show you how to make a WordPress database backup manually through MySQL and cPanel.

Database Backup by using MySQL

Doing anything manually is harder than letting the computer systems take care of it, but MySQL isn’t that bad – just follow the below steps and see how simple it is.

1. Login to phpMyAdmin.



2. Select your WordPress Database and click the tab called “Export”.


3. Now click on SQL option on the right hand side and save the file locally. Choose a compression method (preferably gzip). Then click the Execute button.


4. A message will appear in your browser that will ask you to download this file. Click Yes and begin to backup your database now.


Database Backup by using cPanel

The following steps should be followed if you wish to backup manually with cPanel.

  1. Login to cPanel.
  2. Click “Backups”.
  3. Scroll down to Download a MySQL Database Backup.
  4. Click on the database that you want to Backup;
  5. Download the backup.


You can create the database backup manually with the above mentioned methods. But for an even easier method, we recommend you install the WordPress Database Backup plugin.
